History

At the low foothills on the border between the Twelveswood and the highlands of Coerthas, with the Spine at its back, the humble yet bustling tribal home of the Nievalo Keepers sat nestled in a shielded valley. A monument to traditional life of those miqo'te who followed the word of The Moon, the Nievalo families kept separate from many goings-on of the realm at large. Specially adapted to the frigid winds that fell from Abalathia, the tribe excelled at living in this strange border between three rather disparate lands. It was to this tribe, into a particularly large family of green haired miqo'te, that Sura'ra was born - the 5th son and 10th child of the matriarch of the clan.Already odd in the rather low likelihood of a Keeper mother birthing 5 sons, Sura'ra from his infancy showed an aptitude and curiosity for both the arcane and the mechanical. What little conjury and other magicks the tribe knew - Sura'ra mastered in his first five years of life. What trinkets and strange devices his tribemates brought home that they found on their hunts - he was gutting them and rewiring their components by the age of 7. While he did not neglect his learning of the traditional hunting ways of his tribe, Sura'ra's mind had a habit of wandering to grandiose thoughts of magic and machinery.

It was at the age of 12 when Sura'ra was given something that changed the course of his life permanently. On one cold winter morning, an unfamiliar Keeper with dark green hair entered the tribal village sporting a similarly green ornate coat. What confused Sura'ra more was the fact that everyone else in his family seemed to know exactly who this man was, and looked at him with increasing scrutiny on his every step. After a brief set of pleasantries with the matriarch of the clan, this newcomer approached Sura'ra with a broad smile, and spoke with a confident tone. "Dear brother, I hear the secrets of the world call to you. I have a gift, if you will accept it." By the time he had finished speaking, the man already had his hand extended, and in his palm lay the ruby red glow of a crystal- inlaid with the symbol of an inverted staff. "A primer - from your elder brother Sura'to, and from the Students of Baldesion."Taking the stone into his hand, Sura'ra instantly felt a connection to it - it's secrets flooding his mind with a flurry of thoughts and questions, daring him to think, learn, and explore. Sura'ra became obsessed with pursuing the knowledge within, and with that came a thirst for the knowledge without. He became curious about the outside world, and eventually began speaking to people beyond the territories of the Nievalo tribe. It was on one of these excursions that he was tracked, his brother Sura'li becoming increasingly wary of his youngest brother's overlong so-called 'hunting trips'. It was then that he found Sura'ra dealing with a Coerthan elezen, trading animal pelts for bits and baubles of tech.

In the very instant Sura'ra returned home, Sura'li challenged him on the spot. Having already revealed the young man's deceit to the tribe, Sura'ra was given an ultimatum by Sura'li with the blessing of their mother: Give up his pursuit of knowledge at the expense of tribal resources, or leave and never return. Already yearning for more and remembering the name "Baldesion" that his elder brother had spoken, the choice was easy. On that day, Sura'ra chose exile, and with but a crystal and a name to go off of, Sura'ra set off to find his brother, and learn more about the world beyond those frigid foothills he had called home.

Hooks and RP Notes

Explorer at Heart: The draw of learning about the corners of the world still burns brightly. Sura'ra will be the ear to hear your story, or an extra sword arm in an expedition that catches his interest.
The Essence of Magic: Magic is integral to Sura'ra's life, and understanding it's intricacies is part of his mission. Share your experience in the arcane, for each mage might have a new perspective another has not thought of.
Fellow Scholar: Only through discussion and comparison can one come to a true conclusion about the nature of something. Sura'ra loves the challenge of debate just as much as the collaboration of similar conclusions.
Societies of the Past: There are many fragments of past civilizations strewn across the star, each with a morsel of knowledge about the age they come from. Find an object, place, or manuscript from an age long past and bring it to Sura'ra's attention, and he'll make it worth your while.

Hi there! I'm Charip (25, he/they), and I've been playing FFXIV since about March of 2023. I fell in love with this game and it's world almost instantly, and it's been a joy to get to know so many people! XIV has been where I really discovered I love character writing and roleplay, so the character you just met someone I tried to put a lot of thought into!
I also do lots of content in this game! If you're looking for someone to run dungeons with or sub in for a raid team, I'm down to help if I have the time! I will also threaten to drag you into UWU, get used to this.
I don't have a very set schedule since I work variable hours which can include overnights. If I'm on, I'm on. Please don't bug me to be online when I'm not, it's probably for a reason.
My other characters are Meira and Seisha (pictured above) as well as Noriko. Feel free to check out their carrds here!

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for reading! Hope to see you out there in the realm!
